Kiddo's First Actual Halloween!

*plops down with her to do lists and a sigh*

So..took 5 years, but Destructoboy is finally interested in Halloween! We weren't entirely sure until about a week ago though. He likes watching Goosebumps and Scooby Doo, so we had to make sure it wasn't just the tv fare that is offered at this time of year. He has also been going on about Robots, Lasers and Monsters for over a month, so that wasn't really a trigger either.

He started pointing out different Jack-o-Lanterns that we have seen around, so, okay..he's interested.

Been out and about the past couple of days trying to get everything together for it.

Got some silver face paint, he has some grey clothes, and at the suggestion of a store employee, picked up a silver table cloth. Robot it is..if he really wants to be a Monster Robot that Shoots Lasers, no problem! I also got him a little fiber optic light stick that would double nicely for lasers.

Might not take him out around Trick or Treating all that much, but he should have fun dressing up anyway.

I have no idea how many kids we are going to get, but we are in a school area and our apartment complex is open, so I bought $20 worth of candy just in case. Good work out carrying that home!

We also carved the Jack-o-Lantern tonight! Hubby drew a couple of pumpkin styles on a piece of paper, and then asked which eyes, nose and mouth Destrutoboy wanted. I forgot how messy scrapping out pumpkins is. *chuckles* Good thing I picked up a cheap plastic tablecloth with a halloween theme on it.

Still don't have anything to dress myself up as, and I wanted to see about getting one of those paper skeletons that hangs down to put on the door, but we are mostly set.

..I think.

Kiddo's first day at school! Ack!

It was Destructoboy's first day of school today! He was so excited about going, he refused breakfast and even chocolate milk! Then he kept pointing to his backpack to get me to put it on, but we were about 15-20 minutes ahead of having to go to wait for the bus. I tried to prolong it, but he just put the bag on himself and kept inching towards the door, occasionally coming back to gesture me to come or even get behind me to push me towards it. I finally acquiesced, about 10 minutes before I intended to leave. *chuckles* So..we waited there for the bus for about 15 minutes. The driver is very nice and had Gabe buckled in nicely. So far I have had no phone calls, so I imagine the day is without incident.

I went into the office with Hubby, (had to deliver some chocolate chip cookies to some silly little art director), and then left to my own devices for about...oh...6 hours.. I filled it with a trip to Starbucks to complete my yuppy impersonation, and a trip to Target to disabuse myself of my yuppy impersonation. That and after about 3 cups of coffee (1 while waiting for the bus, one at home and then the one from starbucks), I had to access facilities.

So..I am home with a clock, some batteries, a birthday card for my mom, some exercise vids for myself (pilates for toning and back strengthening, and tai chi for overall well being), a Christmas gift for Gabe (that's 2 so far for him! 3 people bought for, yay!), and a few more assorted items that I cannot recall, but will when I go to hide the gift.

It didn't stop me from the occasional heart stopping moment of going "Where'd Destructoboy go?", then realizing he was at school and it is alright, I don't have to be attached to my child every waking moment of the day and it is just the natural mother instinct kicking in. Weird, weird feeling...well..except to any parent that has spent the majority of the days with their child and then suddenly don't have one in the house for a few hours.

Now to get some chores done, and pick him up from the bus in a little over an hour!
